The BC Professional Teaching Standards is a set of 9 principles that are set out as guidelines, which teachers are required to follow. These professional standards are outlined for teachers and teacher candidates who are given a responsibility to care for their students and colleagues. As educators, we are held to higher standards by the community, we are put in charge of people’s children and given the task of teaching students lifelong virtues. They are also designed to help teachers set out on a course of reconciliation and acknowledgment towards Indigenous peoples of Canada, which include First nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples.
